3 Autumn Trends I’ll Be Embracing All The Way Through Winter
** DISCLAIMER:
Whenever I add photos/links of pieces I found online, I’m usually just putting them there for inspiration. I try my best to find sustainable options for each, but as always, I highly recommend taking inspiration from the photos and going on the hunt for similar pieces at your local thrift store or vintage shop! Or just go shopping in your own closet :)
On the Grid
You’re definitely a SQUARE if you haven’t taken advantage of this awesome pattern (I’m sorry). Anyway: grid vs. plaid. Is there a difference? Is one better than the other? Let’s discuss. In my opinion, yes. A grid pattern is a little less busy and a bit more sophisticated than most plaid patterns you see. It’s also my favorite texture to pattern block with — even do some grid on grid action with. It’s also the perfect pattern to throw onto an otherwise boring outfit. On the other hand, the right pattern of plaid makes you look like a fashionable lumberjack ready to cut down some trees for the cold winter. There’s just something about a nice red plaid jacket that immediately screams FALL but as soon as you hit December, it becomes an awesome festive look.

Rich Tones
Entire outfit from Daisy Jane Vintage
For the last couple of seasons, I’ve been experimenting with color. And every time winter comes around, I feel like I need to have a designated color palette because well, I always get too attached to grey tones as it gets colder.
Through this experimentation, I’ve gone both too far and not far enough in terms of my comfort zones. I know now that I definitely want to incorporate more — but not all — colors into my wardrobe, but I’ve also proudly admitted to myself that I am more than happy with a black, white and even grey color scheme once in a while, especially à la Diane Keaton. But the colors I’ve felt connected to most lately? The rich, saturated ones that we’re seeing in so many monochrome styled outfits for fall and winter. They’re cool, they’re classy, they have an air of glamour to them. I’m talking about the rich cherry cardigan or the deep blue turtleneck underneath a rich teal blazer. More of that, please.

Florals, But Make it Moody
Okay, but hear me out. For the cold season? They just might be groundbreaking. I’ve been loving those patterns that have a black or darker base to them. It feels a bit more mature, with an aura of high-fashion to it. Also, every time I wear this pattern I feel a little bit like a Disney villain - it just has that badass element to it. I remember last year I wanted to start incorporate more fun patterns to my winter wardrobe but it was so hard to find the kind that didn’t look to springy, but also added the right amount of zhuz. And I didn’t even mean to incorporate this trend into my wardrobe, it just kind of naturally happened and then I realized I was on the right track. It’s a perfect pattern for those who want to get out of their comfort zone this winter. I think it’s just one of those patterns that’s so fun and incredibly easy to style up and to pattern block with.
